Conte Guicciardini, Massi di Mandorlaia Reserva 2013
Since 1200 the Guiccardini, one of the most ancient families in Florence, holds a prominent position in the social, political and commercial life in the city. Piero G was named "Conte Palantino" by Emperor Sigismund of Luxenbourg in 1416. Castello di Poppiano is a impressive medieval castle and has been the property of the Guicciardini family for almost nine centuries. Today the house is run by Ferndinandi Guicciardini who inherited it from his grandfather in 1962. Together with his nephew and adopted son, Bernardo, they want to carry on this passion for wine and traditions for the next generations.
Morellino di Scansano is an ancient wine denomination, though only recently have wine lovers begun to recognize its reputation. The area is hilly and unique and though it´s difficult to work with, can make some exeptional wines. Compared to the family´s deep connection to Castello di Poppiano, the Morrelino di Scansano vineyards are much more recent as the land had been used as grazing land before 1998.
Mandorlaia Riserva 2013 has an intriguing thickness of the ruby color, and purple reflex almost turning garnet. On the nose and in the mouth you can find complex scents of leather, tobacco, notes of mocha, fudge and blackberry. This Riserva has an smooth and impressive body with structured tannins and a long sweet finish.
